WHAT NOT TO FLUSH
Check out the resources below to learn more about how to keep our wastewater and septic systems functioning smoothly and damage-free.
DO NOT FLUSH:
- Baby wipes, paper towels, diapers, and sanitary products. They do not dissolve in water and cause pipe blockages. Throw them in the trash.
- Fats, oils and grease. They will solifidy inside pipes and cause sewer backups. Wait for it to cool, pour into a container and throw it out.
- Medications and vitamins. These enter the water supply and can harm the environment and aquatic life. Dispose of them at a drug take-back site.
- Paint, disinfectants and cleaning products. These chemicals will damage the environment and must be disposed of per hazardous waste guidelines.
Wipe related blockages cost the state of Massachusetts over $10 million EVERY YEAR, according to the National Association of Clean Water Agencies.
